Final Exam

The final exam will open on Canvas starting Monday, April 22 at 12am AoE (Anywhere on Earth), and close on Thursday, April 25 at 12am AoE. Please read the following carefully and let us know if you have any questions.

It is important to remember that final exam week is at the end of the semester and our team has a deadline to meet for getting everyone’s final course grades finalized so they are submitted on time. There is no room at the end of the semester to grant any kind of long extension. Please reach out to the Instructors EARLY if you have any concerns about the exam window so we can have some time to figure it out.

Keep in mind that end of term is May 2, 2024.

Weight 10%
# of Questions ~35-40
Time limit 180 minutes (3 hours)
  • There is a 3 day window to take your 1 attempt, meaning you can pick any day within the given window to take your exam. The exam may consist of multiple-choice, true/false, matching or fill-in-the-blank type questions.
  • This will be a timed exam, meaning that once you start, you will have 3 hours to complete it. Keep in mind that you have 1 attempt at the exam, so once you start the exam, the timer will continue until the 3 hours are up. The timer will also continue if you decide to exit the exam without submitting. If you do this, you may enter back into the exam and continue. The exam needs to be done in one sitting, so it is best to set aside 3 hours of your day where you can have no distractions (hopefully). Do NOT select to take the exam until you are 100% ready. We will NOT grant another attempt if you do. To play safe, do not even navigate to the exam area on Canvas until you are ready to take the exam.
  • You can start the exam at any time before the end of the testing period, but it is extremely important to keep in mind that the exam will close at 12am AoE on April 25 regardless of whether you finished your exam or not. You should plan to submit your exam before the 12am AoE deadline to avoid any potential issues. We will NOT grant exceptions if you run into problems with the exam at the last minute. To be on the safe side, we highly suggest that you do NOT wait until the last day to take the exam if you can help it. You never know how Canvas will behave.
  • The exam is open book/notes, so you can have all access to your notes, lectures, assignments etc. Even though you will have access to the Internet, you might be better off looking at the lectures or your notes to help you out during the exam.

Material on the Final Exam

To prepare for the Final Exam, make sure you review:

  • All 8 lecture lessons listed here (yes, including Lesson 8). Optional lessons (i.e. Lessons 05-07 through 05-09) will not be covered.
  • The required readings specified in the course schedule. Optional readings will not be covered. In general, the required Szeliski textbook readings provide a more comprehensive and formal background to the material that is presented in the course lectures. You do not need to spend too much time trying to understand all the formulas and equations that are in these readings for the final exam, but use the textbook to help with any additional details of the lecture material.
  • The material from the assignments and projects.
  • The material in the three Jupyter Notebooks and their corresponding Canvas quizzes.

As we have already stated at the start of the semester (in the course syllabus), there will be no study guide or sample questions given ahead of time. This is why we highly recommended at the start of the semester that you all keep good notes as you made your way through the course because it’s going to come in handy right now.

On Canvas, there is the option to download a PDF copy of the slides under Files → Slides. Having a local copy of the slides may be useful as a quick reference during the exam. Also, as you review the material and have any questions about anything, feel free to ask publicly on Ed. The TAs will do their best to answer your questions. Your fellow classmates might also be a huge help too!

Sample Exam

We provided a quick sample exam on Canvas (Quizzes → Practice Quizzes → CS 6475 Sample Exam) to help you become familiar with the Canvas testing environment, and it will also help you understand how point deductions will work for the final exam. For this sample exam, you will have unlimited attempts at 10 minutes each, to answer 4 bogus questions. This sample exam is NOT graded and will be left open. We recommend that you purposely answer Question3 and Question4 incorrectly just so you can see how point deductions work. If you have any questions on this, please ask on Ed. Our team will not be answering any questions during the final exam window (unless you are having technical difficulties with your exam).

Emergency Extensions and Accommodations

We will only grant an extension for medical and emergency reasons. You will need documentation substantiating your situation (e.g., a verifiable doctor’s note, letter from GT’s Disability Services). If you have an emergency or accommodations that we need to be aware of, email the Head TA or send a private message on Ed to the Instructors as early as possible. For those who have accommodations and already discussed them during the semester with the Head TA, please send a reminder email/Ed message again so your exam is properly set up.

Last Reminders

Important Note: If for some reason you get kicked out of your exam, try logging back into Canvas → Quizzes and try to resume the exam. If you run into any other technical difficulties during the exam, send us a private message on Ed and we will try to resolve your issue.

We will NOT answer any questions related to exam questions during the exam window.

Do NOT take the exam with anyone else and please do NOT discuss the exam with anyone while the exam is live. Also, do NOT post the exam questions and answers online and/or share with any students who are currently taking the course or about to take the course. These are a violation of the honor code and will be reported. The Instructors will be watching over Ed and other discussion forums to make sure no questions and answers are being discussed or shared.

Good luck!
